Special Characteristics: 
Key identifying features are small to medium body size (67-77 cm height and 28-40 kg weight); red and black coat colour; short neck and prick ears; head profile is straight; straight horns pointing backwards; beard and ruff occur in 88 and 97% of the males, respectively (FARM-Africa, 1996).
Main Location: 
Inhabits a broad range of altitude in Keffa and adjoining parts of south Shoa, Kembata and Hadiya; the climate in this area is highland subhumid to lowland semi-arid; the production system is mainly crop-livestock mixed small holding (FARM-Africa, 1996).
Origin: 
(Probably derived from mixing of types in the past, and related to the Western Highland goat type of Ethiopia).
