Main Location:
In Dembia, around Gonder, and parts of Chilga and Alfatakusa districts of North Gondar.
It is believed to have come to this area from northern Gojjam, particularly from Achefer some 130 years ago. This cattle was introduced after their holdings of cattle (the known as the Baggara type) were totally eliminated during the religious war against Dirbush from the Sudan. Incidentally, the name Baggara is now being used for an indigenous zebu cattle type in northern Sudan.
