Main Location: 
Inhabits a wide area of the highlands of eastern and south-central Ethiopia, in Arsi, Bale, Hararghe and Sidamo provinces as well as parts of southern Shoa; the climate varies from semi-arid to subhumid with rainfall above 1500 mm; the production system varies from agro-pastoral to agricultural and urban.
Origin: 
Almost certainly descended from very ancient importations from Arabia across the narrow Bab-el-Mandeb straits at the mouth of the Red Sea (Wilson, 1991).
